What is live wedding painting?

An outdoor painting setup featuring an easel with a partially finished painting of a woman, outdoors in a wooded area with trees and greenery.

Live wedding painting is a unique form of performance art.

I set up an easel at your wedding, creating a custom portrait of you and your partner as the day unfolds.

Guests love watching the canvas come to life, adding to the atmosphere and magic of your celebration.

The Process

I begin painting after the ceremony. Throughout the evening — often 7+ hours of live painting — your portrait steadily takes shape before the eyes of your loved ones.

At the end of the evening, I take the canvas back to my studio, where I’ll spend the following week refining details to ensure the most beautiful finish.

The Result

Within a month, your completed artwork will be ready and delivered to you.

  • On the wedding day, I create the base and capture the atmosphere. I then touch up the finer details back at the studio for a high quality finish. The painting requires around two weeks to fully cure, and delivery takes approximately one more week — meaning your finished artwork will arrive about one month after your wedding.

  • I take each painting with me to finish at the studio. I work in oils, which offer a level of depth and richness well suited to portrait work. Unlike fast-drying mediums, oil paint cures slowly through oxidation, so each piece is completed and allowed to set properly in my studio. This ensures that the painting is finished to a professional studio standard.

  • I travel between locations on the day at no extra cost.

  • I paint exclusively in oils for their depth, richness, and timeless quality. Unlike quick-drying paints, oils cure slowly through oxidation, which gives them a beautiful luminosity and lasting strength. For this reason, I complete and allow your painting to cure fully in my studio before it is ready for collection or delivery.

  • Beforehand, we’ll talk through the setting you’d like, and I’ll create a scene that reflects your style.

About Hannah

Hannah holding a painting of a bride and groom in a forest setting. The woman is outdoors with trees and greenery in the background.

I’m Han, an oil painter based in the Blue Mountains.

I specialise in realism, with a focus on portraits and capturing the mood of a moment as much as likeness. I’ve been painting portraits for as long as I can remember, and working in oils for over a decade.

My interest in weddings began early, long before I painted them, and has stayed with me as my practice has developed.
